Meet at the apartment complex on E. Lafayette,

just west of Lafayette Central Park in Detroit

(between Rivard St and Orleans St, see Yahoo! Map)

Council member Reeves recently voted to increase water rates for Detroiters. Tell her you support the Water Affordability Program for low-income residents. For more info Call 'em Out!!! (313) 874-2792.

TINSLEY-TALABI PICKET IS GREETED BY RADIO CAMPAIGN ADSCommunity protesters at Tinsley-Talabi home

In the fifth consecutive Sunday picket at the home of a Detroit City Council Member who voted to increase water rates, the target this time was eastside resident Alberta Tinsley-Talabi. Although the Councilwoman has been in office for 12 years, she has done nothing for the thousands of Detroiters who annually live without water. In fact, she was one of the main Council votes to increase water rates, and is opposed to a low-income Water Affordability Program. The Councilwoman wasn't home to personally address the community members, so her neighbors unsuccessfully tried to drown out the protesters with repeated Tinsley-Talabi radio campaign ads blasting from a car stereo. Following the protest, members of Call'em-Out!!! continued to hand out literature in nearby neighborhoods.

ALBERTA TINSLEY-TALABI, DETROIT CITY COUNCIL MEMBER!!

Sunday, April 9, 2006 • 2:00-3:30 p.m.

Pennsylvania St. at Navarre St. in Detroit (see Yahoo! map)

(one block west of Cadillac Bl., and half way between

E. Vernor Hwy. and Kercheval St.)

For the last 12 years, Alberta Tinsley-Talabi has neglected her duty to the people in the City of Detroit by supporting budgets that ultimately drove the City to the brink of collapse while her fortune continues to grow at our expense. She has also done nothing for the 45,000 households that are without water. We deserve better! Let Council Member Tinsley-Talabi and her neighbors know you support the MWRO Water Affordability Program.

RESIDENTS TELL KEN COCKREL, JR., "YOU GOT WATER, WE WANT WATER!" IN LATEST HOME PICKET

For the third consecutive Sunday, Detroit citizens and other concerned area residents picketed the home of a Detroit Council Member who has voted against the will and best interests of the people! On March 26th, it was Kenneth Cockrel, Jr., son of the 1960s "freedom fighter," Kenneth Cockrel, Sr--but this nut fell far from the tree! Next week, get ready as we shame Jr.'s stepmother, Sheila Cockrel--the most notorious and hateful Cockrel of them all! Read more about these pickets below in the Messages to the Grass Roots.

THE COMMUNITY CALLS OUT COUNCILWOMAN MONICA CONYERS!

3/12/06: Members of Call'em Out!!!, Michigan Welfare Rights Organization, and other Detroit residents decided to pay a friendly visit to Councilwoman Monica Conyers' home on this warm winter afternoon.  Mrs. Conyers was one of the council members to lead the vote on Friday for an increase in water rates, despite NO implementation of the Water Affordability Program to help low-income residents pay and manage their water and sewage bills. When we arrived at her home, she quickly got into the passenger side of a SUV and drove off with a friend--is she giving us the bird? You decide!! Read more about this in the Message to the Grass Roots (3/12/06) below.
