Where to Get Assistance/Know Your Rights

Struggling with DTE gas and light bills?

If you are a low-income, disabled person, a senior on a fixed income with a shut-off notice from DTE Energy, call this special DTE telephone number for assistance with your bills (800) 545-8046. Tell them you are in need of assistance to prevent shut-off of your utilities, and that you were referred by Michigan Welfare Rights. If you have a Department of Human Services (DHS) (formerly Family Independence Agency) case, contact your worker and apply for State Emergency Relief (SER) by filing out a SER application. Call your local DHS office or search the Michigan DHS website to find a location near you.
